This step-by-step guide will show you how to set up MetaMask for Mobile and connect it to the Energi networks. The guide will also cover how to backup your private key to be used on the MyEnergiWallet application, as well as import a private key if you already have one.
1. Install MetaMask app on your mobile device
MetaMask Mobile is available for download in both the Android Play Store and iOS App Store. Download the application from one of the links below, according to your mobile OS, and then follow the instructions below:
2. Sync MetaMask Mobile with your browser extension
The easiest way to set up MetaMask Mobile is to sync it with an existing MetaMask for Chrome wallet. If you already use the MetaMask browser extension to connect to the Energi networks and manage your Energi, then you can simply sync the mobile app and start using it immediately.
WARNING: To sync the MetaMask Mobile app with your MetaMask browser wallet, you will need to begin with a fresh install of the app. If you already have a wallet set up on the app, skip to Section 5 to import your private key.
2.1. Start the app and select “Get started”:
2.2. On the next screen, click “Sync with MetaMask Extension”. You will see instructions and a button labeled “Scan”.
2.3. Open Chrome and log into the MetaMask extension:
2.4. Click on the account icon in the top right corner and select Settings > Advanced:
2.5. Next, select “Sync with mobile”:
2.6. Enter your password and click “Next” to display a QR code.
2.7. Return to the mobile app and select “Scan”. Point your camera at the QR code to sync your wallet to the app.
2.8. You will see a message saying “Please wait while we sync your data…”. You may then see a pop-up asking if you want to enable biometrics. We suggest that you do, but it is not necessary.
2.9. Finally, you should see a screen saying “Wallet Imported”. Click “Done” to finish the setup process and begin using your wallet.
*If you receive an error message at the last step, repeat the QR code scan process until successful.
3. Set up a new MetaMask Mobile Wallet
3.1. Select "Create a new wallet":
3.2. Enter a new and secure password, check the agreement box to confirm you understand that MetaMask cannot recover your password, and click “Create Password”:
3.3. Start the procedure to secure your Wallet, and confirm its secret words:
3.4. Review the instructions to secure your wallet, and select “Start”:
3.5. Confirm your password, and select “Confirm”:
3.6. Click “View” to confirm your secret words. Take note of them, as well as the order in which they are presented, and keep them safe - you will need to confirm your secret words, and their order, at the next step. Once ready, select “Continue”:
3.7. Select each of the secret words according to the order in which they were presented previously. Once you have selected the correct words in the correct order, the “Complete Backup” button will activate, allowing you to select it and finalize the creation of your wallet:
4. Default Account Address
4.1. MetaMask by default will create an address. You can copy it by clicking on the address.
4.2. Make a backup of your private key and store it in a safe place. You can use the private key to recreate the wallet or generate a keystore file in MyEnergiWallet.
4.2.1. On MetaMask’s initial screen, navigate to the menu located in the upper left corner and expand it:
4.2.2. In the expanded menu, select “Settings”:
4.2.3. In the Settings page, select “Networks”, then select “Security & Privacy”:

4.2.6. Your private key will be displayed. Notate it and store it in a safe place - it can be used to restore your wallet in the future. You can also select the “Copy to clipboard” option to copy the contents of the private key box:
ALERT!!: The private key should be handled with utmost care and safety. If anyone gets hold of it, they can access your funds associated with it. Backup the key to a secure location.
4.2.7. The backed up private key can be used to generate a keystore file using the MyEnergiWallet application:

5. Import an Existing Private Key
NOTE: ERC-20 tokens (including ETH) and NRG share the same private key for an account address. You can import the private key of your NRG account to create the same account address in the Ethereum Main Network. We suggest you import the private key of your NRG account so that you have the same address on Ethereum Mainnet. This is not a requirement. Just a suggestion!
5.1. On MetaMask’s initial screen, navigate to the menu located in the upper left corner and expand it:
5.2. In the expanded menu, click on “Account 1”:
5.3. At the account list screen, select the “Import an Account” option:
